Święta Katarzyna Vacation Guide

The history of settlement in the area of the community reaches back to 4200 years BC. Initial mentions about the localities of today’s community appear in documents towards the end of early mediaeval period. The first references to Święta Katarzyna (Latin - S. Katherine) come from 1257 and to Siechnice (Latin - Sechenice) from 1253. From the mediaeval period, several villages belonged to the Wrocław monastic order or churches, later also to the town council and Wrocław citizens.

Here, the providing farms were possessed by the Order of Hospitallers - the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem and Crusaders of the Red Star. In the day of division of Silesia into districts, the area of the community belonged to the Duchy of Wrocław. Historical documents do not make note of ravages of war right up to the Thirty Years’ War - when Święta Katarzyna itself was devastated. The turn of XIX century saw rapid industrial development in the northern part of the community (construction of ironworks, generating station and a research institute in Siechnice).
