Look around you when driving through the south east and notice all the numerous car parks dotted around. Pull up into one and you're away. Get out the car and walk where you please...it's all FREE! However, don't stray into fenced off areas and of course obey the "private" signs. If you're looking for a more 'traditional' experience try going on one of the actual Ashdown Forest walks located in Hartfield. Here you'll get taken on a guided walk and you'll be able to see the many monuments that helped the adventures of "Winnie-the-pooh" come to life. Attractions would include the pooh sticks bridge (where one can play a game of pooh sticks) and many other general items out of the hundred acre wood (which is in fact, the ashdown forest). A pleasant thing to do on a spring or summer afternoon.

You are right on the money about the beautiful walks in East Sussex! Three of my best friends live in Seaford. Three of my personal favorites: Beachy Head, Seven Sisters and Lewes Castle. It's no wonder why Sherlock Holmes picked East Sussex to retire in :D
