If you walk up to plaza nueva, then walk past you're on your way to calle de los tristes (i think its the name)...there's the small rio off to your right side, and it goes up into the albaicin/sacromonte....if you wind your way up, you'll find yourself in parts of the albaicin where people just live and there are no shops or anything, and there are holes in the dirt off to the left of the alhambra that you can see across the hills, and if you're at the alhambra you'll see the same over in the albaicin although its hard to see any dwellings on your own side from the trails. The idea is to find the old wall of the city of granada....don't go by yourself if you can avoid it...or just don't carry cash with you up there. Its a nice walk if its sunny...go to the abadia del sacramonte, an old nunnery type place and go on the tour that costs a few euro...it was worth it for the history of the place (that wasn't a bad activity for a cloudy day).
Also, if you're up for some fun late at night...go to the chupeteria row ...i forget the street, but its a 15 min walk from the center of town...jsut ask someone at the hostel you're staying at. If you get some coupons on teh street, u might get 15 shots for 5 euro or something ridiculous. fun to do with people you just met, and you won't get wasted because they also have shots that don't have alcohol, but are pure sweetness. If you have a weekend to go hike in the alpujarras and get lost, do it...get dropped off in some town above Lanjaron...and walk down to Lanjaron to take the last bus home...its cheap and awesomely peaceful. Salobrena is a really close beach that is easy enough to navigate and hang out in on your own...nothing huge, but its a small beach town that looks pretty awesome when you approach it on the bus. |
