The Land of The Free, a nation of immigrants who joined the indigenous population who had been occupying the area for millenia, the United States is a young country in comparison to other states of the world, but has grown up fast to become one of the most influential and powerful nations in the world.

Separating from the British Empire in 1776, the United States grew together from a loose confederation of regional states. Over time, America expanded from east to west, eventually stretching from sea to sea. With that, the country added new regions, cultures and history to itself. The English, German, Irish, Italian and Asian immigrants came over in huge waves over the years, eventually setting the pace and flavour of the country. Through the annexation of a large portion of Mexico, Latin Americans immediately became members of this new state. All have added to the diversity of the country.

Important on the world stage today, America stands for freedom and liberty for all. A large country, there is so much to see and do, it would take one many trips over many years to fully see everything. Depending on where you visit, you will receive a different flavour of the country than if you went elsewhere. There is a wide range in climate and geography, from deserts to mountains to cities and canyons.

The United States is a grand land and Americans welcome you to come visit their home to see all that it has to offer.

A place of dreams.

On the road just about 10 a.m. after all the last minute packing and checking to make sure we hadn’t forgotten anything. Filled up with gas at our usual station and paid $3.799 per gallon. That should get better as we get farther east. Our California gas has so many additives in it to keep the air clean that it is much more expensive and we get much lower fuel economy. Our little Toyota Prius is jammed with suitcases, cooler, stuff and more stuff. Hey this is a 45 day trip, we have to hav...

This morning, for the second time in my life, I woke up in a field somewhere in West Virginia.  This was the last time I would be waking up in a tent.  I reflected on our journey, how in just over a month's time we traveled through 25 of the 50 states, and visited over 20 National Parks or monuments.  This was the second time in less than 10 years I was able to an adventure like this, and I would do it again in a heartbeat! There are so many wonderful places and things&nbs...

On Saturday night we drove Linda and Ray to the Airport for their return home to Medford.   We were sorry to see them go ...   Honestly, I don't know how we could have had a better time.   It was so relaxing and fun to see them for the week.   Ray and David talked about their work and Linda and I talked about family and our goats.....  and of course, we all mixed our talk too......  Linda and Ray are our idols and good friends so it ...

Matt's last day was kind of frenetic. We packed a lot of disparate things into one day, starting off with a brunch with my posh friend Helen. She's known as the "black widow" of the hedge fund world, hahaha =) Just kidding. Well, sort of. We met up with her and her boyfriend at Catch, but it turned out to be closed. We were still able to be seated by the window in the main dining area for some breakfast, which was very nice. After a somewhat intimidating chat with Helen (heck even I'm intimid...
