Chengdu is cheaper than beijing and the night time bbq is amazing. so if you are looking for a visa where you got to kill some time, chengdu is a cheaper place to wait. ...but all depends if chengdu in on your way or not. but if it isn't, it should be because the food, oh the food. loved the food.

funny, i am questioning the same thing myself. i think i orignally wrote that post regarding if you had to stay in a city somewhere and wait, the cost per living in chengdu is much cheaper than in beijing.

i am also thinking of going to lhasa this fall, mostly so that i can go from thailand to india without flying, and since myanmar looks like it has closed boarders (ie. no through travel) i was considering taking a train to kumming or chengdu and then heading to lhasa and then to nepal and then to india, but it seems once again, that the chinese government is a little against people going by land to tibet

One or more travelers entering Tibet together with others may wish to have their own separate group visa so they are able to separate from the others. Obtaining a group visa requires at least two clear days in Katmandu. What is Tibet Permit(Tibet Visa)? Tibet Permit… My favorate, My panda

-Places to visit are not restriced-travelers in one group can come from different contries-travelers can stay in Lhasa by themselves -It is easy to obtain a Tibet Permit if you have necessary ducuments,for example: Visa,passport -China border has been open, trip from Lhasa to Kathmandu is possible -Mt.Kailash has been open to foreigners -Travelers from Beijing… My favorate, My panda
