Yangshuo And The Swamp Monster

Cooling off in the river.

I dragged myself out of bed like a bear just out of hibernation for a spot of Tai chi at seven o'clock. The only stumbling block being that "The Master" as the guide referred to him was going to be half an hour later than planned. I thought Tai Chi was all about discipline? You wouldn't catch Mr Miyagi doing that.

For the rest of the morning most of the group went off for a cooking class, I headed to the local park . The park was full of locals playing chess and cards under the shade of the trees, the noise of inserts in the trees was deafening. I picked out a free bench and sat in the shade reading a book. I decided to take it easy for the rest of the morning lazily walking around Yangshuo.

For the afternoon most of the group and myself took a bus to one of the many mountains around the area for some caving and a mud bath. It was a good laugh and I managed to pose for a great photo looking just like a swamp monster all covered in mud. It was a strange experience being covered in clay like mud but it was great fun, I doubt I'll be doing it again for some time though.

Our guest house was hilariously named "faulty towers", but was actually pretty good. I took a shower to get rid of the remaining mud before the whole group took a cruise down the river for a meal in a small village.

Most of us were pretty full after the meal as we caught a bus back to Yangshuo. Most of the girls in the group went wandering around the shops and stalls looking at shiny things just like a swam of magpies, although most of the shops seem to sell the same old tat around China, they still seem to buy it.

Myself and Micheal (The English guy) decided to sit in a bar and watch the shoppers pass by (including his other half) with a jug of dark ale. The others joined us later on but not many seem to be keen on sitting in a bar and socialising, chilling out having a few drinks, whether it be alcoholic or non alcoholic drink which seemed a bit of a shame. It was left up to myself and Micheal to drink a couple of jugs of ale before wobbling back to the guest house.

Yangshuo is a pretty cool place, and the scenery is amazing just outside the town. It's a backpacker hangout which has a few touristy bars and shops.
