Touch Down In Bangkok
My flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok was pretty uneventful, I had enjoyed Hong Kong although my accommodation wasn't great and it was pretty expensive. I enjoyed Hong Kong's vibe and all night shopping and eating, the only thing I didn't particularly like compared to China was the way everyone had to be wearing a designer label and everything was kinda focused on status.
I landed in Bangkok expecting more hassle going through passport control and customs, but it was all pretty straight forward. My passport was stamped for 30 days and I was on my way, the fact that I had no onward ticket out of Thailand within a month didn't seem to matter to Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong either.
As I waited for the bus to the infamous Koh San Road, one backpacker, Lucy, sat down and started chatting to me.
It turned out that she had just come from China and had followed a similar route over there and was also later heading to Australia. As we got off the bus and headed towards Koh San Road we were amazed how easy everything seemed, Internet cafes everywhere, laundry services, shops etc I had spent 2 days in Hong Kong trying to track down an Internet cafe (I didn't find one that wasn't closed down) and now they were everywhere! I wasn't expecting Bangkok to be so easy and tame to be honest, for me in comparison to China it seemed like the British holiday camp, Butlins. The crazy and wacky words used to describe Koh San Road in the guide books seems a little far fetched. The road itself seemed to be a collection of young people, some getting dreads , tie dye clothes to look a bit different plus some lads on a lads holiday. There were also a few older travellers mixed into the crowd here and there.
In the evening we ate dinner and had some beers on Koh San Road just people watching. Later on we met some guys from Leeds who were pretty amusing and we headed out around a few bars. The 6.4% beer took its toll on me as we caught a tuk tuk back from the bar breathing in the Bangkok plus tuk tuk fumes for good measure.
