To Siem Reap and Angkor Wat!
I finally managed to leave Phnom Penh for Siem Reap today. I checked out of my guest house No.9 and paid my rather large bill. In Cambodia they tend to let you have a tab in the guest house so you pay for everything at the end, obviously in the hope you'll spend more. My final bill was about 70-80 US Dollars for my room, food and beer for six nights.
I hopped on to the bus with my new guitar in hand, it wasn't as much hassle as I thought it might be. For some reason 5 minutes after the bus had set off we had to change buses for no reason what so ever. The bus was full of mainly backpackers from Phnom Penh, from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh there were few if any.
As I got off the bus after a 5 hour journey a massive rugby like scrum began with touts trying to get me to stay at their particular guest house (They give you a free ride and get commission from the guest house). I chose the Village Garden guest house and jumped in a tuk tuk with a German guy Yan who was next to me on the bus.
Once we had checked in to a basic but cheap room (About 1 dollar 50 cents each) we bumped into two Dutch girls in the guest house bar, we had been talking to early from the same bus journey. Later on I had a few beers with various people we met and ended the evening playing cards against Yan, Caroline (one of the dutch girls) and an Italian dude. I managed to lose the first three games but then won the final game before smugly waltzing to bed.
