Singapore - The Truman Show

As everyone started to get off the bus taking all their belongings with them I remembered that we had to cross a border in order to get into Singapore. I could certainly tell that I was entering Singapore, with numerous warning signs on the walls and armed police officers on guard.

As I had forgotten all about the border crossing I had also forgotten to repack my rucksack. This is always a bad thing when your mind starts to wander about what dodgy things you could have in your bag or whether some one could have planted something when you weren't looking.

When passing through customs I realised that inside a pair of shorts in my rucksack was a loose Malaria tablet, which if found could give me plenty of explaining to do. Fortunately, no one seemed to notice and I glided through and re boarded the bus to head to the centre of Singapore. Strangely I noticed one backpacker take the wrong route away from the waiting bus, I think he thought we had arrived in centre Singapore and that the bus didn't go any further. In reality we were a budget busting taxi ride away.

On first impressions Singapore seemed a little like Hong Kong but taken a step further (or a step too far!) in it's organisation and cleanliness. To me the city felt surreal and comparisons to the town in "The Truman Show" started to invade my twisted mind. If you haven't seen "The Truman Show" it's about a man who lives in a perfect town with perfect people but what he doesn't know that it is in fact all fake, even his wife. He eventually finds out that he's staring in a reality TV show.
