Quito

I eventually make it to Quito after taking a night bus to the border town of Tumbes in Peru then catching a bus across to Ecuador before jumping on another night bus to Quito. This takes three days and I arrive in Old Town Quito at the well run "Secret Garden" hostel a little run down.

I spend most of my first day in bed but the following day I wander around the fasinating Old Town of Quito. According to the guide book the Old Town is the safer place to stay in Quito due to the heavy police presence. I found this to be some what true although the gringo area in New Town seemed pretty safe. After a day of sight seeing I met up with a old house mate of mine (Martin) in a bar called Bungalow 6 in New Town. It was good to see him after such a long time, he was in Quito to study some spanish.
