Pisco Elqui
October 16, 2007
Myself and two German girls I had met in Valpo arrived in Pisco Elqui 3 hours in land from La Serena. The scenery had blown me away on the bus journey to Pisco Elqui. Huge grey mountains dominated the skyline with lush green pisco vine yards at there base. Pisco Elqui itself was a small village where shops close whenever the owner has something else to do and tumble weeds roll down the road.
After getting off the bus we were approached by a very cheerful women who told us about her accomodation. Not knowing a lot about the place we went with it. It turned out to be a lovely little house with a beautiful garden. We stayed for one night before opting for a german hostel (probably the only hostel in Pisco Elqui). The hostel was equally good and had a swimming pool with an amazing backdrop of the huge Pisco Elqui mountains, it was breath taking.
We were recommended horse riding in Pisco Elqui. One morning we met with an entertaining horse riding guide who took us hide into the mountains around Pisco Elqui. The view was jaw dropping and the horse riding was great fun. Considering two of us had never ridden a horse before we took on some rough and often very steep terrain.
I enjoyed Pisco Elqui, it was a great place to chill out in and take it easy whilst doing a few activities. I would recommend it to people, although I am not sure how good it would be if the weather was not great.
