Less Than 3 Months To Go Until I Jump On A Plane?
This is an early post I know, I just wanted to get to grips with this blog and to find out how to work it properly before I leave the country. I also thought it would be cool to look back at some of the organisation (Or lack of it.) and planning that stressed me out before I left.
I've got under 3 months to go before I start on my travels and it'll be my first long haul flight. I'm travelling alone so hopefully I will be able to do exactly what I want, when I want and won't have to put up with someone's cheesey feet or whatever. It should also force me to plan things a bit more, as I tend to do things a little last minute.
I purchased a half a round the world ticket about a month ago. I opted for the half round the world ticket as my trip will last longer than a year so purchasing a full Round The World trip was out of the question as they expire within a year. I plan to buy the rest of my main flights from Australia.
I went into STA travel first and also tried Flight Centre both near Covent Garden in London. STA were pretty helpful and I thought the price was reasonable too. As for Flight Centre, they kinda just looked at me as if I was crazy and said they'd email me details of flights....they never did.
My flights are London to Beijing, Hong Kong to Bangkok, Singapore to Cairns. It cost under 700 UK pounds with STA Travel. Originally I wanted to go to Japan first but it wasn't possible with this kind of ticket.
I'm going to stay in China for about a month before heading for Bangkok where I'm going to go on to Cambodia, Vietnam and laos, this will hopefully take me roughly 4 months. Then I'll be heading through Thailand to Malaysia to Singapore. From here I'll fly to Cairns to travel the East Coast of Australia for a month. I intend on staying in Australia for a while before doing the second half of my trip which should include New Zealand, Fiji and 6 months in South America.
Ok, so it's less than 3 months before lift off. How far have I got with my to do list? Well lately I think I've tackled some of my major concerns and got them out of the way.
1) Book Flights - Done.
2) Visas - Aussie visa sorted, Visa to get for China and Vietnam.
3) Injections - enquired can only get 8 weeks before I go.
4) Change Bank Account - In the process of doing
5) Buy Gear - mp3 player and digi camera bought, rest to buy.
6)Insurance - hmm not looked at properly yet.
I've decided to change my bank account like most other people (From the UK) travelling as Nationwide do not charge for withdrawals overseas with their flexi account.
