Jungle Trekking Chiang Mai
After all the smog of Bangkok it was good to get out into the fresh air and I was looking forward to the trek in the jungle north of Chiang Mai. Again it was a hot day and all of the 11 people in the 3 day trekking group were sweating after just a few minutes steep trekking. The trek was hard work at first climbing some steep terrain, it became slightly easier but still very hard work in the heat. We were trekking to a tiny village high up in the mountains. The village was tiny, there were no guest houses but thin huts made of bamboo with 11 thin mattresses in a room with mozzie nets covering them. After the hard slog of the trek we wandered around the quint village viewing the breath taking scenery of the jungle from way up high.
Our guide, Wii( no idea how its spelt) cooked some sweet and sour for the whole trekking group for dinner as we sat on the floor of the hut chatting.
As the sun went down "Jungle Boy" another one our guides entertained us with some great pub like tricks involving match sticks and fire. Outside the hut in the pitch black it was great to be able to see so many stars in the sky, something I wouldn't often see back home. Sleeping in the hut was surprisingly easy although I was rudely awoken at five in the morning by several loud cockerels cock-a-dool-doing.
