Hiking In The Longji Rice Terraces
We checked out early from the "Outside Inn" village guesthouse and caught a bus to Gullin where we left some luggage behind so that we could hike lightweight through the Longji Rice terraces. The terraces are huge and sit between massive hills and mountains, they have apparently been there for 700 hundred years. The people who live high up in the hills still continue to farm the land in a similar fashion even today.
Our guest house was completely wooden but had the most amazing view overlooking the valley of rice terraces with the odd wooden house sitting in the distance. The weather in Longji was a lot cooler than in other parts of China and made a refreshing change. Early on after unpacking and eating dinner some of the group went for a evening hike, we typically got caught in a massive down poor high up on a hill. It was pretty funny and the rain was warm anyhow so we didn't really mind, I enjoyed the exercise. The only downer being my clothes were soaking so I later on decided to throw some out as I could by new T-shirts for 2 pound!
Again that evening myself and Kenton chased a couple of cockroaches around the room until they disappeared out of sight. Probably into the room next door. After spraying myself from head to toe with deet (Insect repellent) I headed to bed.
