Tanjung Pinang, Bintan Island
July 6, 1994
Bintan island is about one-hour ferry ride away from Singapore, one-and-a-half-hour flight from Jakarta, or less than 3-hour flight from Bali. The island keeps a low-key lifestyle but boasts pristine beaches along the coastline.
-excerpt from my review-
When you visit Bintan island in Indonesia, you will arrive in the capital Tanjung Pinang. It's a friendly small town. The whole place has warm tropical feelings all around. It's less "touristy" as opposed to other beaches/tourist attractions elsewhere in Indonesia.
Where to go in Tanjung Pinang:
- Pulau Penyengat -- a famous historic place in Tanjung Pinang where remains of old Malay palace are located. Bring insect repellent when you plan to visit this place :)
- Trikora beach -- you don't want to miss this one. This beach is unexploited. White sand as far as you can see, tranquil waters, and very nice atmosphere. Go native and try fresh young coconut juice while on the beach!
