Since I was a kid, it has been my dream to see Burubodor. The reason why is because this is the first cover of the national geographic that my family subscribed. To see it real is indeed a dream come true. Also, Prambanan, a Hindu temple in Yogyakarta is also worth visiting...

A visit to Yogya when Merapi was about to erupt...

I have been planning for my trip to Yogyakarta months prior to my visit there. All has been prepared, hotel, transportation, itinerary and all. Then this pesky volcano in Yogya made a threat of violent eruption. This same volcano has a history of violent eruption, Burubodor was once covered with volcanic debris from this volcano.

After weighing things and asking locals if it's safe to go there, I decided to push through with the trip. So there, despite of the heightened warnings, I made my way to see the Artist's city of Yogya. I stayed there for three days, exploring the wonderful Burubodor Temple, visiting Batik shops, went to the Sultan's palace, explored Taman Sari, enjoyed a buffet with Ramayana Ballet show and lastly, enjoyed Prambanan Temple.

It is a dream come true for me to see Burubodor Temple.

The day I left Yogyakarta was the same day Merapi has erupted. I had my stop in Jakarta before going back to Singapore, and in Jakarta, I watched CNN with the eruption of Merapi as one of the headlines.

And in less than a month of my visit, there was this deadly earthquake in Yogyakarta. Hundreds perished....
