During the dinner with Zhang, we had been talking about him, his wife and his young kid who had come with him all the way here. He has spent a few long days with us now and we agreed that on the next day he should take time off to be with his family. We just arranged for the driver to get us back to the airport. In the morning of the next day, we would find our own way around.
However, for tonight Zhang said he could still get tickets for the three of us, for a show by the minorities of Lijiang area, called Mountain River Show. He was certain that we would enjoy it, and by now we were more than willing to trust on his opinion.
Apart from the Naxi, Yunnan and Szechuan provinces are home to many minorities. Some are related to the Tibetans, and some are much more related to the Laos and thai people, because we were in the north of the province now, but it stretches all the way south and west to the Laos and Burmese borders.
So in some way we expected a plain, superficial and commercial event. It would be a musical and dance show with lots of elements, story lines and costumes of all the different minorities, in the Dongba Cultural Palace in Lijiang.
Too much to go into all detail, I am just posting the pictures of this show here.
There were only a few westerners vissiting that performance, most visitors were from other parts of China. The joy and the enthusiasm of the dancers and performers was absolutely infectuous, and after the show, we were invited on stage with them. What a nice evening to close off our short stay in this beautiful part of China!
And how lucky we have been, by meeting this young lady four days ago on the flight from Shenzhen to Kunming...
