July 4th, 2007 – by: CrazyLisa
After our little group woke up we went to go get breakfast. We drove around looking for places (we wanted Sushi but it was still closed) and ended up at Harry's Coffee Shop. It was a pretty little diner and we ate outside out front. The meal was scrumptious and we were delighted. We found a Bevmo (Beverages and More) and stocked up on alcohol and then went to Vons to purchase chips, corn on the cob and steak.
Back to the house where we met Su and we started creating drinks and barbecueing steak and corn. We made the corn the lote way (practically any slightly ghetto street in the los angeles area has these guys, they come around with carts and they have corn on the cob, which they cover with mayo and then chile powder for a buck) We made our own lote with parmesean cheese, We didn't have chili powder.
The drinks were out own creation as well. I had a watermelon martini mix that we used in everything. We started off with those plastic red solo cups filled with ice, the half fill with Malibu Rum, Tropical Banana flavor, add a shot of Hypnotiq, then another shot pineapple juice and then fill with the watermelon flavor. It was really fruity and very refreshing.
We cooked the steak and cut them into squares and ate as is.. Yum! Chris cooked a chicken and we did the same with that.
Grace and Jeff showed up and Jeff made this green sauce that was to die for and he put it over the strips of steak. We ate so much and were so full.
Around 8:30 we heard fireworks start up and we ran out to the front yard and seen a fabulous fireworks show just up the street from us. We cheered and took pictures and were happy. The show was over too soon and we went in to say our good byes. We were leaving Chris there but the other 4 of us all had to be back to work today. We started our trek at 9 and made it home a bit after 11. We didn't make any stops returning home but hit traffic.
All in all a wonderful way to celebrate the 4th and a great time with great friends.
