On this Trip Report i will give brief descriptions of places we visited, restaurants and bars we visited and my views on the city!
Krakow was the cheapest off all four of them.
We travelled for 3 nights from the 20th Jan - 23rd Jan with Easyjet from Liverpool airport i booked our flights around 6 monthes ago and paid £140 return for both of us with one luggage in the hold.
We stayed at The Globus Rooms and Apartments Address ul.Dielta 91. really good location in between the Jewish District and The Old Town. Rooms were Spacious and free Wifi just need to ask reception for the code.
Airport Transfers- We booked Zibi for return transfers. He made us feel welcome and chatting away as soon as we met him. Looks after his clients and will go out of his way for you.In hindsight i wish i had booked Zibi for the trip to Auschwitz.
Highly recommend this man for airport transfers if anyone wants his email address just give me a private message.
Bars and Restaurants
Starka in the Jewish District was our favourite restaurant we visited.
Rated No 2 on TA had around 10 tables so a small place. The food and drinks were very reasonable here, cocktails around 15- 20 pln. I had the duck with red cabbage, mash potatoes. which was so yummy!
2 cocktails, 1 beer, 2 mains and 2 deserts 125pln plus tip.
Highly recommend this place!
Zielona Kuchnia Rated No 3 on TA. The restaurant is around a 10 minute walk from the Old Town. It wasnt that hard to find if you have a map.
There was no one else in this restaurant when we got there but i already knew that from reading reviews. For the quality of this food this resturant should be busier. The food was very reasonable and cost for 2 drinks, 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 deserts. 157 pln plus tip.
Pod Baranem rated No 1 on TA. This restaurant is near the castle area. We visited this place for a smaller meal after lunchtime. I tried the mushroom soup in the bread which was really nice. Very reasonable again.
One soup, one smaller main 2 drinks, 2 coffees and 2 deserts 96pln plus tip.
Morskie Oko - lovely decorated restaurant just behind the main square. I tried the cabbage and mushroom dumplings which were so yummy!
They also do great vodka cocktails and around 15pln each.
2 starters, 2 mains, 1 beer, 2 cocktails 131 pln plus tip.
Kolanko - Small Cafe in the Jewish District which served small meals like soups and sandwiches.
4 cappucinos 1 sandwich and 1 soup was 50 pln. Bargain.
Alchemia Bar in the Jewish district. Cool place Free wifi and drinks were cheap. We wanted to visit the Singer Bar but didnt have time as we wanted to visit the Old Town while it was still light. Next time.....
Cafe Art located somewhere off the square down an alley. We had the soups in the bread was just okay food. Not bad prices either but wouldnt recommend it for food.
Horoscope located near the castle the most welcoming restaurant in the whole of Krakow the waitress was so friendly with us. Food was good too, 2 drinks, 2 mains and 1 desert 90pln plus tip.
Skara Bar- visited here for cocktails white russian and cosmo 41pln.
We really liked the Jewish District, nice part of town away from the other tourists. Some nice buildings and churches and one of the bridges is a must see with the love locks on really unique idea. Dont know name of bridge sorry.
Auschwitz - I had prebooked tickets with a travel company back in the UK as i had vouchers to use but in hindsight i wouldnt have done that. The Tour was with Krakowtours.com a big coach in which was very hot and made the journey unbearable for both of us both ways. I should have booked with Zibi looking back for the transport to Auschwitz.
Auschwitz was a moving experience for both of us.
Krakow is a great city with some fab bars and restaurants and is very cheap if you can compare it to other places we visited.
Could anyone tell me if you can go up any of the churches or anywhere for views of the city? was unsure of this.
Our budget for spending money was around £330 which we have £40 left and we visited many restaurants, bought a few bits back with us and this includes airport transfers too.
We really enjoyed Krakow and would return for visit when the time is right.
Next stop for us Barcelona in 12 weeks time!
