What a sight, a Buddhist shrine in Northern Sweden!!!
Following the Swedish land route 352 from Örnsköldsvik at the coast to Fredrika in Lappland we were astounded to come across this Buddhist shrine, errected on a hill surrounded by great Northern nature. We parked our car and went to see the Buddha statues, which are quite impressive and large. There is a convent nearby as well, where Buddhist monks actually live and celebrate their sacred ceremonies. I didn't take a picture of their home however, due to ethical respect. Next to the shrine you'll find some sort of tent, where all kinds of things might be obtained for a donation. Post cards, tea, refreshments and offerings to the Buddha are on display there, as well as info brochures on many Buddhist issues. No one seemed to be there in that tent. They totally rely on the sincerity of visitors. When we were about to leave, some monks incidentally showed up in their sky-blue Volkswagen-bus. They were in a very happy mood and talked a lot. When we finally left, we circeled around the place three times in our car, 'coz we were also in a fantastic and little crazy mood and wanted to show the monks our respect. They actually appreciated our "roundgoings", laughed a lot and waved us good-bye!
