The best thing about this place is the road that leads out of here...

My first few days in Curitiba were nice, but the rest of the time I felt just as alone as I was feeling in Porto Alegre, so I was really happy my friend ended up having to work for the second week I was meant to stay and that I needed to make other plans. I did not want to go back to Porto Alegre, so I decided to fulfil one of my desires and head to Sao Paulo.
My bus was at 11:45pm on the 1st day of 2012 and I was sitting at the bus station from the time my friend dropped me there at 8:30pm thinking how exciting this new year is going to be for me.
So, there I was at Curitiba bus station with three hours to kill before my bus, I had plenty of time to be thankful I was leaving this place. I pulled up a chair, pulled out my journal and started to write. At one stage I looked up and saw the perfect view. Sunflowers and a couple of smiley girls on the side of a bus about to depart for greener pastures, the bus was outside a window on a bright blue wall with a bright orange bin hanging on the wall near the window.
I'm just charging my phone to share a series of text messages I sent to a friend while I was waiting for my bus. This friend never replies to my text messages so I felt I could tell someone my feelings without the voice of reason replying to me, at the same time I had a bit of fun with my updates to him. Sometimes I'm not even sure he reads my messages, so in a way it was like sending my thoughts out into the void.
I hopped on my bus at 11:45pm and was out of there, on my new adventure with a big smile on my face.
Below are the text messages to my friend Luiz. Luiz is someone I met online when I lived in China and we have stayed in touch ever since. He thought he might be going to Sao Paulo this week for work, but he wasn't sure.

Hi. You're on my mind... Imagine - the first week of 2012 and I get to meet you. I hope you come to SP this week. Have fun tomorrow. Oh, if I ever tell you I'm going to catch a bus anywhere again, you have my permission to slap me, shake me or do anything else to remind me I hate busses. Talk to you soon. Beijo.

Maybe it is right that I am taking the bus... Because the best thing about this place is the road that leads out of here... I'm not going to say this will be my last message 'cause I'd probably be lying anyway...

Boa noite. Are you still awake? I'm getting very, very sleepy... I have another 40 mins till my bus then it's night night for me. I hope when I wake up I'll be in another state and another city, one that holds really good things for me. Wish me luck Luiz. Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite. Beijo, beijo, beijo...
Stay tuned, the messages continue in the morning.
