U2 - New York
In New York summers get hot, well into the hundreds;
You can't walk around the block without a change of clothing;
Hot as a hairdryer in your face;
Hot as a handbag and a can of mace;
We landed in NYC yesterday and feel like we have walked into an oven, it's 99 Fahrenheit with 45% humidity (37.2 Celsius) the "feels like" temperature is over 105!
We checked into the New York Helmsley last night, the room is small and somewhat dated but with the rate that we are paying I suppose we are getting what we pay for :) The room at least has a fridge and is very well positioned - up the road from Times Square, near the United Nations and close to Grand Central Station.
Today we went for a walk (in the heat) to Times Square and down to the United Nations.
We went up to the "Top of the Rock", that is The Rockefeller Center. Despite being very hot, it wasn't too clear so we could only see half of Central Park. At the top it is 70 stories high, Kath freaked out from the height and being near to the glass walls, it was quite hard getting a photo of her near the edge.
After the Rock, we went down to the United Nations and did the guided tour. The place is amazing, very much enjoyed the tour and hearing how the United Nations functions. At times I couldn't help but look around and recognising parts of 'The Interpretor' - silly I know.
Looking to go shopping tomorrow 5th Avenue, Canal and Spring Street - Kath is most excited :) Im looking to get along to a musical, and trying to get some tickets to "Jersey Boys" or "Chicago".
