We awoke early to get a good start on the shops - we did not have a great deal of time so we hit the department stores before winding our way through a few of the other shops on the streets of Paris. There was a lot of searching for the right thing but not a lot of purchasing - im not sure how that happened but it always seems the way that when you look for something specific you seem not to find it so easy. But alas it was fun whilst it lasted and we happliy made our way to Gare Lyon to board the TGV for Aix - ready for a change in scene.
The TGV was awesome - making some 800km in just under three hours - amazing stuff and a very comfortable low maintenance ride for us. The locals here are so lucky they can be in Paris and then in the South of France less than three hours later.
We arrived in Aix found a taxi straight away and drove for around 15 mins to our hotel. After checking into the Aquabella Hotel we were pleasantly surprised to find this a fantastic hotel with lovely staff, BIG room (compared to other stops in our journey), internet, pool blah blah blah. We were starving and on the prowl for dinner, so went for a brief stroll and obviously took a few wrong turns as we found nothing so resorted to dining back in our hotel. Hotel restaurant was awesome - had a very good pre-fixe menu with plenty of good options and reasonably priced plus they had a low fat menu which was good for those of us who were worried about the impact of too much good living. The food was fantastic, service a little disorganised but with food in the belly and a waiter who was patient and had some English, this was not a great problem. We did some planning over dinner and found a tour running to St Remy du Provence and Avignon the next day so we decided to get up early and try our best to get on this tour.
