Santiago, Chile
April 1, 2006
Santiago was our first stop outside Australia. We almost missed all our connecting flights when sydney interntaional airport lost power and we were left in immigration for two hours.
Santiago is a big city. Our spanish is not very good as yet so dictionary is required at all times, especially the supermarket. The Chileans apparently speak exceptionally fast spanish which made our "un poquito Espanjol"(small amount of Spanish) difficult to get by. La Casa Roja was a great place to stay (thanks Lesh for the tip) and we met some others heading south for Torres del Paine.
Millions of people and plenty of wild dogs (cute though). Not somewhere we would like to drive! apart from being on the wrong side of the road the streets are tiny and the cars fast. Fish markets were exciting, just like Lygon St trying to drag you into their restaurants. All we could say was "uno momento" and then run. Two days here but we will return on our way to Peru.
