Leaving the lovely iguazu falls and the crazy argentinian football for the sunny beaches of the Ilha Santa Catarina and new and potentially even crazier brasillian football fans. Another overnight bus to get us there and many more worries now that we need to communicate in Portugese and have not one word under the belt. Not to worry, we´re gringos, everyone knows that.
Ilha Santa Catarina is a fairly large island located about 12 hours by bus to the south of Rio. The most well know town on the island is Florianopolis and indeed this place was lovely for the entire 10 mins we spent there walking between bus terminals. Off we went to a lovely little beach side town called Praia do Amacao (not sure whether this spelling is correct, i think not) to meet up with a few guys we met at the start of our trip down in Argentinian Patagonia.
The night we arrived Gecko was throwing a party for his family and some friends, we got involved with the locals which was great fun. However didn´t get to messy as the big one of the mighty Australia vs Brasil was on the next morning. Gecko had hired a karioke machine for this party that he stayed on for the rest of the weekend, we´ve never seen a crazier man than him of the karioke, 12 hours a day and he loved every second of it.
Tragedy with Australia going down, but it was to be expected. Good fun though being around the locals, they did hang it on us big time though after the loss. Better than being killed though if we won i suppose.
We were here for two nights before making our way north along the coastline. Lots of slacking for us to come now.
