PAGEANT OF THE MASTERS & SAWDUST FESTIVAL
August 26, 2007
This is my mum's annual weekend trip to the "festival of arts" in laguna beach. this year she invited me to go. laguna beach is 1 1/2 drive south of LA. it is in the OC or orange county. it located between newport beach and san onfre beach. the history of it
this is fun "local" thing to do. if you do not like the tourist traps of LA.
we drove there at 2pm. dinner reservations at the tirvoli terrace at 6pm. the pageant of the masters show is at 8:30pm. we got plenty of time to go to the sawdust festival in between. it is a separate admission. it is $7 for each festival. the pageant tickets come with the admission. the festival of arts is from july 1 - end of august.
we had a good time. the festival of arts is local artists of laguna beach showcase their art. there are a calendar of events to do.
i was able to take pictures of the grounds. 2 years ago my mum bought a black and white photo from an photographer, emanual dale. my mum made equity on it. :) the picture won awards too.
we went to the sawdust festival. it is walking distance to from the pageant of the masters. about the sawdust festival
i think it is cool the grounds are covered with sawdust and wood chips. when we got there. we watch a glass blown artist make his masterpiece. we watched marcus thesing create a plate in an hour. it was so hot from where we were standing. however, near that furnaces was like a sauna but worst. marcus thesing and his assistant was funny and entertaining. he is local. this studio is 2 blocks down from the festival. my mom was in awe that she bought the piece that marcus made. the piece has to be submerged in luke warm water for 24hrs, to be cooled. it was be ready to be shipped when we get back from norway. it was a beautiful plate.
it was perfect weather to. it was 70 in the afternoon. 60 at night. the pageant of the masters is outdoors. about the pageant of the masters the theme for this year is "young at heart" it was a 2hr show and a 15mins. intermission. i could not believe the kids can't stay still of 2mis without blinking. i wish i could take pictures. we were not allowed to.
That's the idea behind Pageant of the Masters, a two-month long series of performances in Laguna Beach, California in which famous paintings are replicated by human performers meticulously covered in layers of paint that match the original creation.
The result is 90 minutes of three dimensional, life-size reproductions of masterful paintings. The performers stand absolutely motionless on stage and blend in with the backgrounds of the paintings. The living portraits are accompanied by a full orchestra performing an original score as well as a narrator who tells the story of the paintings featured.
It's all really quite amazing. And best thing is that you can coax your kids into enjoying some fine art and culture by telling them that will be visiting the real life set of Laguna Beach.

This is only open during the "festival of arts". i would not recommend ordering the pork chops. i asked to order medium rare. then the waiter said it only comes in medium. that should have been a clue. the pork chop was so well done that you can kill somebody with it if you use it as a weapon. i ordered another dish. i ordered a plain i/2 chicken. for the price of $24. they should have at least deboned it. however, the house salad is good. my mum's dish is good too. she ordered the chicken tivoli. a breast of chicken with asparagus and mushroom sauce. for what it cost i did not want to order chicken. it was over priced for what it is. then again you are in the grounds of the "pageant of the masters". the resturant is outdoors. you are surrounded with a beautiful garden and classical live music. they serve Californian cuisine.
