Nazca Lines
We had a nice early 7am start to drive through to Nasca for our flight over the lines. A little bit of an unconventional approach – most people go and stay in Nasca overnight.
The drive was quite boring but the flight was amazing. The lines are enormous and defy logic. We got into our little 6-seater plane and got up in the air to see the monkey, astronaut, dog, parrot, flamingo, hand, tree, and trapezoid amongst others. There are just so many lines all over the place that they really have to pick the ones to show you – or you have to pick the ones to look at. There is still no agreed reason for the lines – some say it is a calendar, some say it is messages to the gods due to a sever drought, etc, etc.
After getting back to Ica, we managed to find an overnight bus to Arequipa so we spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing and getting our stuff organised. The bus trip was uneventful.
