Bertolli's early days...
May 22, 2004
Just a quick silly note to wrap up my blogging day.
While on the beautiful island of Delos, just off of the coast of the larger island of Mykonos, we stumbled upon an artifact dear to my heart. I love to cook, and this gizmo made one of my main ingredients.
Can you guess? It is really only half of the tool, the other half long gone or used elsewhere. The dimensions of this early kitchen gadget were roughly 2 feet in diameter and the groove was about 8 inches deep.
Without the pressing stone, this olive oil press looks like a decorative fountain, but it served a much more important role as olive oil was a major export for Greece, then and now. This was my favorite of all of the artifacts I found on this journey. I wonder if they have one just like it at The Kitchen Store?
