A chronicle of living in Thailand for 3 years. I was based in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai, but tried to travel around the country as much as possible. Reviews of things to do, places to eat, places to go and different experiences.
Excellent food and even better service
There are a lot of restaurants to choose from in Chiang Mai. I mean A LOT! One restaurant that has consistently been a top choice for us is Out Doors ("Where happiness comes together" as their motto says).

This place has got it all. The food is always really high quality and delicious (and reasonably priced), the wait staff are on top of their shit (it's the only place in town where they clear your dirty dishes) and the atmosphere great (lovely outdoor garden setting). The lady who runs the place used to manage another of our favourite restaurants that shut down. Luckily they brought our favourite menu items with them.

Some recommendations:
- Deep fried tabtim fish with spicy mango salad (YUMMY TO MY TUMMY!!!)
- Steamed tabtim fish with spicy lime sauce
- Spicy glass noodle salad with mince pork
- Spicy grilled pork salad (best in town I've tasted to far)
- Deep fried chicken on rice with yellow curry sauce
- Stir fried broccoli with oyster sauce (always cooked to perfection)
- Garlic and pepper fried squid

Another great thing about this place is that since it's a local joint, you can bring your own bottle. Corkage is about 95 baht, so totally reasonable. They also usually have some sort of drink specials going on (like 3 large Tiger beers for 150 baht). The staff is great about mixing drinks and serving wine.

We also love going there because they really acknowledge and serve us as regulars. We started going there at the beginning of the year and probably go there about 2 times a week and the manager and head waiter always go out of their way to come over and say hello and make sure that we're being served properly. It's always nice to feel at home when you go out to eat, if you know what I mean! :)

If you're looking for great Thai food in a relaxing environment, I can't recommend this place enough!
