Booted
July 3, 2007
Came back to my car from lunch to discover that my car had been booted. You never know with these things here... it could be totally easy or it could be a major hassle, what with the language thing. Luckily it turned out to be the first.
The first step was to find the traffic police station. We decided to stop a tuk-tuk driver and see if he knew where to go. Good news was that he did. He then proceeded to laugh hysterically at his own jokes the whole way to the station. It was pretty funny. Especially when he pointed at some chubby farang chicks and made jokes about them being fat from drinking too much beer. Once at the station, someone told us which counter to go to and the cop was really nice and spoke excellent English. The damage wasn't too bad, only 400 baht. We asked him when someone would come to unlock the boot and he said "immediately". We weren't sure if that was immediately immediately or Thai time immediately, so we asked what time that would be. He repeated "immediately". So off we went back across town to my car and sho nuff a copper showed up within a couple minutes of getting back there. Immediately it was! He was also really nice and polite about it. Overall... a positive booting experience! If you're gonna get booted somewhere, I highly recommend Chiang Mai. :)
