Finally in Xi'an we find a hostel and take a well deserved shower and a rest. Oh and foooood!!! Staying at a decent place called Lu Dao Youth Hostel right by the bus and train station. Asking about Tibet, we get some really sucky news. The office that issues the ttb permit required to enter the country decided to just close up for however long suits them. So bottomline is: we wont even get close to a permit for maybe up to a week. A little at a loss for what to do now. Took a little trip to the terracotta warriors to get our minds of stupid permitpeople and get out of the city. Of course we'd forgotten our student cards so had to pay full price... blaaa! As for the warriors.... it was okey, cool to have been there but we had some preconseptions that were totally off... I guess we had an illusion of something a little more Indiana Jones-like and not so crowded and loud and bright and touristy.
So now we're just waiting for Miriam and to find out if maybe we can get a plane ticket straight to kathmandu or maybe to india and go to nepal that way. But either way, both through tibet and by plane, the prices we've been given so far is somewhere around 5000 yuan/kr. Which we really don't have, so...
Stay tuned for more news.....
Yes, back again. So we've decided to get on the train for Chengdu because rumour has it it's much easier to get help with the permit there. And it's only 14 hours in the wrong direction but what the heck. We'll finally meet up with Miriam again after a month of separation and that'll be good :) So we go to get the ticket as soon as we've decided on this and, of course, they're all sold out so we have to waste yet another day and night at this place. But at least we're taking a step in the right direction! Only it's the wrong... China logic!!
And this time we'll buy a sleeper ticket from the get go. We've learned our lesson. Should arrive in Chengdu around 5:30 am.
