Flying in to Bora Bora

I can't even described the excitement of arriving on Bora Bora. I had heard that one side of the plane gets the view flying in and we got it! For us it was the right side, but I've read that it depends on the flight path which may change because of wind or something. Just ask the flight attendant. Anyway, the view is absolutely incredible!!!

The airport is about as big as a small house. We collected our luggage and headed towards the dock where there is the large free ferry to the main island or some resorts have their own smaller boats that take their guests directly to the hotel. Stepping outside of the airport is so surreal. You are bombarded with a view the most amazing flourescent green-blue water you have ever seen! The ferry ride was great because you can sit up on the roof deck You're basically getting a free short tour of part of the island with amazing views of Mt.

Once again we rented a private residence which happened to be a bungalow that Marlon Brando used to own. We were met at the main island ferry dock by our host who set us up with a car, cell phone and directions to our place. It was better than I imagined. I know the hotel bungalows must be stunning, but with our bungalow we got a whole entire house over the water...2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, kitchen, dining room, living room and large deck out back with a grill, dining table, lounge chairs and lower deck which included an outdoor shower and ladder into the water. Another thing we loved about this location was the seclusion and privacy. There were only four other bungalows and we were the fifth on the end so it was very private. They are spaced out from each other too.

Some of the resorts have so many bungalows right on top of each other. We really loved the privacy.

We spent a lot of time either at our bungalow or at Matira Beach which is the only private beach on the main island and somehow always empty. It is more beautiful than a postcard and even prettier in person than any of my pictures can show. The water is warm and calm with no seaweed or rocks...just soft white sand under your feet and waist deep water for what seems like miles.

There are dogs all over the island. Many of them do have collars so they must not be strays. There were two in particular that hang out at the beach and they were good company since we were missing our dog back home. They walked up and down the beach with us and played fetch with coconuts. They were so friendly and really loved the attention. Then they would leave for a while and go away and come back some time later. They seemed to have their own schedule and agenda...it was pretty funny.
