At least we're a little closer...
Because Dad and Dan needed to be on-site at 6:30 a.m. and
One thing I've learned about me and hotels. Many of them are just too humid for me. Even when they're cool and the a/c is on, they tend to be musty. The BEST hotel I've been in recently was that brand-new (less than 2 months) Marv Herzog in Frankenmuth (see Summer in Christmas blog...). The Best Western in
There is a bar and restaurant attached to the hotel. I've been there once and had Tarantula tequila for the first time (which in this tequila-tasters opinion is not too bad for a mid-priced tequila.) I didn't go this time because I wanted all the sleep I could get. I don't know if it's one of the only places to hang out in Akron, but it's usually VERY busy. I didn't find it overly memorable, but hey, whatever empties your tequila bottle...
The hotel is home to a restaurant, bar and night spot. It's usually pretty busy. All the best parking spaces are taken by bar patrons. The bar itself is pretty clean and bartender is friendly, but nothing outstanding. However, by the number of cars in the lot you would think it's the only place in town to hang out; and maybe it is, I don't know. I just didn't find it to be, overly memorable.
The parking lot is cramped. Many of the spaces are parallel on a curve, which is kind of a trick. Spaces in the back of the hotel aren't lit and seem really "spooky" if you're not familiar with the area.
I don't know if it's just in the humid summer months, but the hotel smells "wet". Our room was so musty it was hard to get comfortable. Everything from the sheets to the towels felt damp. There was a slight "wet dog" smell to everything. I am most picky about clean sheets, and the sheets were clean. This fact alone saved the hotel from rating one star. The bathroom was well maintained, and things seemed to be in order. I did notice that walls were dirty and furnature was VERY dated and ripped in places.
The continental breakfast was... thin. Bagels, juice, coffee, bread for toast, bananas, apples, slightly stale cereal, pre-packaged tiny muffins that were unceremoniously dumped in a basket, and one pack of instant oatmeal. I went to get hot water for the oatmeal and the water in the "hot water" thermos was cold and discolored. EW! They had a couple packs of cream cheese, jelly, and butter (which one must have opened because there was butter all over the other packs.) The tables were wiped down but not clean. The attendant was wearing a work-unacceptable top (would've been more appropriate in the bar on a Saturday night), overly tight jeans, and a dirty Best Western smock. Needless to say, breakfast was not impressive.
This hotel suffices for a quick night's stay, which is what I need when I'm there. However, it's not the best location or most outstanding Best Western I've been to.
