After drinking that many beers last night and sleeping so late i'm surprised that 1) I actually woke up on time at 6am, and 2) I didn't have a hangover! haha.. not that I'm a lightweight or anything, I just don't usually drink that much beer, and again, i didn't eat dinner!! I got ready, packed, DEET-ed myself, and went over to Martha's Guesthouse down the street where Brendan and Jon were staying. uh... they weren't there - checked the lobby, then the cafe - no one. The reception guy said they checked out and left a little bit ago. DId they go to my place? I walked back and there they were in front of the Casablanca - I have no idea how we didn't cross paths! So off we go, back to Xunantunich.
First stop - San Jose Succotz to catch the ferry across the Mopan River. I told Jon and Brendan to give the hand-cranking a try - it was to do it again =). We then drove up to the site and bought our tickets. I asked the guy from yesterday if I get a discount for coming twice in a row AND bringing 2 new people with me... hmm.. no. ok fine. No one was at the site at all so I was totally the resident tour guide, haha. I basically repeated everything the guy told us from 2 days ago when I was here. "Do you know what those are? (pointing to the fruit of a strange tree as we walk up the hill)" Well, back in the days of the Maya, the local people used to... blah blah... and that's where we get (insert some process or product here) today!" haha, it was fun playing guide, and after explaining the museum exhibits and all about the site, I let them go off on their own (oh how quickly they grow up! *tear*) to climb "El Castillo".
On the way we stopped at a place Brendan and Jon heard about called Caesar's that had good gifts and handicrafts - I bought so much stuff, including some Punta Rock CD's that we were bumpin in the car all the way to the airport - cool music! It was about 10:30 now, and we were getting hungry so we got some food at the restaurant at Caesar's - nachos and papaya milkshakes, yum - and played darts while we ate.
We hit a detour and got stuck in traffic but made it just time. Weird, but it turned out that we were all on the same flight! I thought I was going directly to LA, said nothing on my ticket or anywhere about a stopover in Miami.
On the plane, I was thinking it would be cool to have had a stopover in Miami... but what happened next was NOT what I had in mind!!!
