Finally! I made it to Belize! Got my bags and headed out of the airport... first thing I always do when I get to a new place, I move AWAY from the taxi drivers and touts and head straight for the "sidelines" to get my bearings... look around... and decide my next move. After realizing the Radisson shuttle was not coming for me (likely because I forgot to ask for the shuttle to come pick me up, haha), I got me a taxi and we headed into town.
Belize City on first glance looked a bit rundown, but very lively! We passed right by Richard's office (a friend of my coworkers who lives in Belize), and I mentioned it to the driver - apparently everyone here knows Richard - he's a photographer, and there aren't too many professional photographers in the city, so he pretty much does everything from the government's photo needs to local weddings to ads.
Got to the hotel (booked a room at the Radisson Fort George) which was quite nice and checked in - the girls at the counter were also really nice... and very flirty! They said someone called for me, and I thought maybe it was Richard, but they said it was a girl (a girl? who could it be?) They said, oh, it was your girlfriend (HAHA!)... and I said i didn't have a girlfriend, and they were like, "no way.. you don't have a girlfriend? you're lying..." haha it was hilarious. So i asked them about a tour to Lamanai tomorrow and they said the tour office was closed but to check in the morning.
Went up to my room and called Richard to let him know I got in safe and told him i'd call again tomorrow after i get back from Lamanai. Then I called my new buddy Keisha at Discovery Belize, who was busy looking for tours for me to join to Lamanai and Xunantunich.... she found a Lamanai tour for tomorrow and i booked it, so now that's all set!
I was pretty tired so i decided to just stay in and relax and grab some dinner in the hotel. I went to the St. George Dining Room in search of some Belizean food. I wanted rice and beans, and I got it! Pretty damn good. It came with plantains and snapper, but man, that fish was served whole! fins and all, and it was just staring at me! I had to cover it's face with a piece of lettuce before i ate him up! Must say, he tasted pretty good too. Satisfied i headed to bed, i can't wait for tomorrow!!! Lamanai is gonna be awesome!
