Caracas, gateway to Venezuela

Caracas Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

I have always wanted to see Angel Falls. Finally I got around to it the during my 2nd trip to Venezuela and Colombia. I have also visited the Gran Sabana, Ciudad Bolivar, Cartagena and Tovar during this trip. Table top mountains, tropical city scene, beautiful beaches and Spanish forts, and even a German colony in the hills, this trip had it all

Caracas, gateway to Venezuela

Caracas is the jump off point for most of attractions in Venezuela.  the first couple of things that will stick to your memory is the hot humid tropical air and lush vegetation.  if you are hot blooded and have a temperature of a hundred and three, also the tight jeans on the local girls :)

At Christmas time, Caracas celebrates with extremely loud firecrackers that sound like gunshots to the uninitiated and various fireworks.  A special Chrismas treat is the "pan de jarmon" which is sweet bread baked with ham and raisin, which is my favorite.

My favorite spot in Caracas is the "Avila", the hill between the Caribbean ocean and the city of Caracas.  cable cars can take you all the way to the top.  on a clear day, you can get a great view of the city of Caracas and the Caribbean ocean
