Canaima, untouched beauty

Canaima National Park Travel Blog › entry 7 of 12 › view trip summary

I have always wanted to see Angel Falls. Finally I got around to it the during my 2nd trip to Venezuela and Colombia. I have also visited the Gran Sabana, Ciudad Bolivar, Cartagena and Tovar during this trip. Table top mountains, tropical city scene, beautiful beaches and Spanish forts, and even a German colony in the hills, this trip had it all

Canaima, untouched beauty

Canaima is only accessible by small planes, usually from Ciudad Bolivar. We flew over some amazing jungles, rivers and waterfalls.  it was just after a shower and the plane casted raindow halo on the canopy below.  Canaima is a small village on the shore of a lake.  there is a small airstrip and some lodging facilities for tourists.

upon arriving, our guide took us on a walking tour of the local waterfalls. the trial actually went under the falls where you have the rock cliff on one side and a wall of water on the other.  the view from the lake shore is amazing.  sandy beach, 3 lone palm trees in the water, waterfalls and cloud shrouded table top mountains in the distance.  the last thing you have on your mind is "civilization".

this is the launch point to Angel falls, which is 4 hours away by power boat upstream
