When I visited Lima I stayed in this cute, affordable hostel called "The Place." It was located in Miraflores district of Lima, where everything was nearby. The shopping center, internet cafe, parks, and others were just around the corner.
I'd recommend this hostel because the room was clean (I had a private room with a full bed and a private bath), breakfast was included, and friendly staff. You could ask the hotel to pick you up at the airport when you arrive. The rate was very cheap at the time -- but then again I was there in 2001. In any case, you could use the website to find accommodation of your liking. Have a taste of churros (a sweet snack) and ceviche (arguably:) a Peruvian authentic dish made of fish).
