Wahkeena Falls
A slightly later start today but still on the road before 9 a.m.. Breakfast at the hotel was less than we had gotten previously, and in my case even the hard boiled egg wasn’t good, but that happens. We joked about the size of the bathroom in that hotel. The room was only slightly smaller than those of previous hotels, but the bathroom was so small that my wife teased that when she stepped out of the shower she had to really watch so she didn’t step into the toilet. We filled the gas tank again, this time the gas was $2.839.
First thing this morning is a slow cruise along the Columbia River Gorge where we would see several of the largest waterfalls on the west coast. Due to time restraints we drove past the freeway exit to the Vista House and beginning falls. Wahkeena Falls was the first that we saw and then the magnificent Multnomah Falls. This is the tallest falls we will see on the trip, with its double sectioned falls, first 542 feet and then down another 69 feet at the bottom. A bridge has been built where you can go up and across the to get a closer look, but we stayed down at the bottom to take our pictures. Horsetail Falls was next before leaving the gorge and crossing the “Bridge of the Gods” into Washington.
