Beautiful Maui, the Valley Isle.

We thought a good way to start out the new year would be to get married on Maui :)  We've had this trip planned since before we left for Korea.  We met 16 members of our families in Ka'anapali at the Ka'anapali Shores Hotel.  It was wonderful to see everyone after being away from home for 6 months.  The first couple days I ran around with my mom and grandma working out last minute wedding details while the rest of the wedding party and guests caught some rays and frolicked in the ocean.  We had the rehearsal dinner Thursday night in Lahaina at Bubba Gump's.

Friday the 4th was our big day.  Most of the wedding party overslept-thank God Justin's mother was still on Iowa time and had been up since 4:30am.  She stopped by my family's suite to see if we needed any help getting ready- instead she found us all still asleep!  The wedding ceremony took place at 9:30 on a grassy knoll overlooking Wailea Beach on the southwestern part of the island.

Our reception at the Feast of Lele Luau in Lahaina.
It was a beautiful day, the weather couldn't have been better, and Justin and I exchanged our vows in a small, beautiful ceremony surrounded by the ocean and palm trees. After the ceremony we went back to our suite for brunch.  We had a few hours down time to relax on the beach before going to the Feast at Lele Luau for our reception.  The luau was fantastic!  We had a 6 course dinner of various Polynesian dishes while we watched the skilled performers demonstrate native dances from many tribes throughout Polynesia.

For the remainder of our trip we tried to squeeze in as many activities as we could.  We went snorkelling, whale watching, travelled underwater in a submarine, took a helicopter ride over the Haleakala Crater, tanned, and ate as much American food as we could- we had to satisfy our cravings in preparation for our remaining 6 months in South Korea.

On Monday my family had to fly back to Chicago because school was starting again and Justin and I embarked on our 24 hour travelthon back to Gwangju.  Our vacation/wedding/family reunion had been just what we needed but the time had flown by.  Now we have 2 receptions to look forward to when we get back to the States in July.
