Back in My Hometown

After two years, I am back in Japan again! I'll be here for four weeks: the first week in Kyoto and Nara region and the rest in my hometown where my parents still live. We'll fly in during the rainy season ("Tsuyu"), so I wonder how that will affect our trip. It is undoubtedly my least favorite season in Japan because of the unbearable humidity, but this is the only time my family could get a chunk of time off...

Back in My Hometown

These trains are so fast...
When I woke up, I knew that the temperature hadn't come down; I didn't feel all that good. I needed to eat something to take medication, so I went down to the restaurant downstairs for breakfast with the boys. It was the usual buffet-style breakfast that had become so familiar to us by then. I got some food in my stomach, took the cold medicine, and crawled back into bed. Lucky we had until noon before check-out. My husband woke me up around 11:30, and, all of a sudden, my body felt lighter. The temperature was down! I suppose the little nap after breakfast helped. :)

We wanted to go to Iida, my hometown in Nagano-ken, while I felt better. From our hotel, we took a cab to Shin-Osaka Station to catch a Shinkansen. We bought a few Bento boxes before getting on the train so we could eat lunch on board, but we almost didn't have enough time to finish it since the train rolled into the Nagoya Station in just an hour or so. I love bullet trains...! Iida is a little town in the southern part of Nagano-ken, and there're highway buses from Nagoya to get there. The ride is about two hours long. I have to say I felt very relieved when I saw my mother's face at the Iida bus terminal. I was glad we somehow made it there without changing plans despite all the illness. Once at my parents' house, we stretched out and took a nap (except my son). Ahhhhhhh. We'll be lazy for a while....
