One of the most wonderful places I've visited. A "free town community" a self governing neighbourhood of around 1000 established in the 70's on a disused military site.
Still a thriving community and great example of alternative living. All decisions regarding the community are made collectively at community meetings.
I wish I had some pictures to post unfotunately photography is forbidden inside Christiania.
There is a street called pusher street where hash is sold on market stools that line one small road in this vast place, the rest of the area is made up of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, there's a bike shop (no cars allowed on Christiania) and crafts stools, artists selling their work and the residents colourful houses not to mention the beautiful, green setting.
It's the ANTI AMSTERDAM in every way.
Get out there quickly and experience it. Christiania has always been controversial and it's position is looking less and less secure.
