Stanley Homecoming, some small town fun

Every chance we get we expose our kids to some small town
My stepdad’s mother (we’ll call her Yvonne…since that’s her name) lives within town limits. Her house is the perfect place to park our butts and watch the show.
We had a lovely cookout. Holly (5) and Simon (3) declared themselves chef extraordinaire and made everyone pepperoni sandwiches, which consisted of slices of pepperoni smooshed between two Ritz crackers.
Let me tell you, this event brings people out of the hollers who have only ever come out for the annual parade. It is a sight to see. There are many more civilized people but it’s a hoot (I feel I must use the word hoot) to see some of the mountain folk act like it’s a real treat for Jr to ride his hot rod mustang down the parade route. Two kids participating in the parade got pulled over in front of us for driving erratically. They were doing that thing where the driver presses the break and gas at the same time… I digress.
The parade was mostly fun to watch.
The fireworks were the real treat. Ah summer… The kids enjoyed running through the grass catching fireflies. The fireworks started at 9:30ish. They were well done and went on for over an hour. We had to leave before they were finished because the kids were nearly unconscious.
