Spring Break 2002

Dominican Republic is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. I have never seen water so blue before, or sand so pure white and soft. It was gorgeous. The hotel I stayed at--the Occidental Flamenco Bavaro, was luxurious and exciting, filled with endless things to do. The pool was awesome, complete with a swim up bar and palm trees surrounding it. The food was delicious, and yes it was recognizable, unlike in some other places I've been such as China. I've never had such sweet, sugary fruit before, it was so good. I got to go on a 4 by 4 safari to a vanilla plantation and a secluded beach. It was awesome. I'll always remember how we stopped at the beach to go boogie boarding and play in the waves, haha we were acting like little kids.
The DR people are extremely friendly and nice. I became good friends with an employee of the hotel named Johanny Castillo. She took me to the hotel's nightclub, and tried to teach me a little bit of merengue, the famous DR style dancing. It's a lot harder then it looks! lol. But hey I gave it a shot anyway. I am sad though because I have lost contact with her completely. She no longer works at the hotel and I lost her phone number, which she gave to me while I was there. I hope I can re-connect with her someday. It's happened to me before, so we'll see! I certainly hope so. I hope to go back to the DR someday. It was incredible! I'll never forget it.
