Boats, castles and curry...
From Southampton we spent a day in Portsmouth, which is definitely worth a visit if you’ve got any interest at all in maritime history. The historic dockyards are brilliant, and we walked around Nelson’s flagship (the HMS Victory) which is the only remaining 18th century sailing ship in existence. We also saw the partially preserved wreck of the Mary Rose, raised up from the sea bed after 500 years, and the first iron clad ship, the HMS Warrior. Then we went for a short cruise on the harbour and saw all the more modern warships in dock. Then we had a short wander around Southsea castle (which had a jumping castle set up in front of it!). I know this sounds a little bit like show and tell at the moment, but really, it was just an interesting couple of days, with no really strange or eventful things happening.
