Midsummer in Ekenäs 2007
June 22, 2007
Every year, the midsummer is widely celebrated in Finland. People leave the cities and move out to the country side or archipelago for a weekend. This is a holiday in Finland, so most people are off work (which is great!)... Many years in a row me and my family with friends have gone with our boat to an island off the coast of Ekenäs, a small summer town in South-western Finland, last couple of years it has though become more of a party weekend for me and my friends - it's like the first real day of summer and that's why we always try to make the best of it. Last year I went to a friend's house in the forests in Esbo, eating, drinking and partying through the white night! This year me and a couple friends escaped to Ekenäs to a friend's summer house! It was great, and typical Finnish! ;) Lots of food and drinks, sun and fun!
Ekenäs (or Tammisaari in Finnish) is definitely a place worth visiting in the summer time, but honestly, winter time isnt that special there, it's pretty much dead haha! The summer brings out the best in the Finns, which can very well be seen here! :)
