On and above the alps

Somewhere between Geneva and Grenoble
I flew to Geneva from Oslo feeling rather out of place - I think I was the only person on the plane not bringing skis! I was met at the airport by my cousin Ali, and we drove back to her apartment with stunning views of the alps ahead of us. I was firstly glad not to have any rain, and secondly amazed that it was still light at 5 in the evening!
The great weather continued the following day - after a lazy morning we set off to Megeve (French alps) for an afternoon of skiing (snowboarding for Ali). It was absolutely amazing, and such a contrast from my skiing experience on Friday! The weather was perfect - sunshine and clear blue skies. I just bought a mini-pass that was just for the beginner slopes, but then also bought a single cablecar pass so I could go up to the top once (where Ali and a friend were) to get a better view.
The university campus (imagine having to study with that view. harsh)
Then I also had to come down from the top - not by a green or blue run like I'd hoped, but a red one! I made it down though (not very elegantly or quickly, but all in one piece!) Skiing is great fun, but I think I'm going to have to try not to have 5 years in between each time I go to the snow to ever improve at all!
On Monday morning I saw the alps from a different perspective. Ali is learning how to fly, and for her lesson on Monday she (with her instructor) flew me to my next destination, Grenoble. It was so cool! Again, the weather was great, so we had amazing views of the alps as we flew in between them. I think the French Alps must be the best place to be able to learn to fly!
So now I'm here in Grenoble visiting my friend Christine from South Africa, who is doing her French Masters here for 2 years.

It is lovely to be able to see her again, although unfortunately her university schedule has been screwed up by the strikes last year, so she is actually in the middle of exams at the moment!
But I have been exploring Grenoble by myself. Yesterday afternoon I took advantage of the great weather and went for a long walk, but today unfortunately it was raining so I did a little bit of exploring of the town and went to a couple of museums. Last night I went with Christine and some of her friends to another South African girl's birthday - and I got to try escargot for the first time! Tomorrow Christine is free so we'll do stuff together, then I leave on Thursday afternoon for a night in London with my friend Jess before heading to Heathrow early on Friday morning.
