WC2006: England vs Ecuador
ANDREI - I espouse The Beautiful Game. So much better than the brand of ¨football¨they play in the States - just ask anyone outside the country. We´re all nuts for the World Cup. What´s so good about it? The passion? The fair play? The athletisism?
Not today. England squeaked through thanks to Beckham´s fantastic free kick, but only brecause Ecuador proved to be the equal worst team left in the tournament. Such uninspired football due to an uninspired manaagement team. Yet again, us England fans suffered some unintelligent play from the best paid footballers in the world. A tragedy. That is why we are so flabergastered by so many men that, on paper, are worrld-beaters.
Then the other bad side of football (yes, we touch the ball with our feet for more than 60 per cent of the game) - Holland vs Portugal. Some bad refereeing but also some bad sportsmanship. Shame on you Luis Figo. You are a disgrace.
The bright side is that Deco and Costinha are suspended for the match with us on the 1st July. Fingers crossed yet again?
