Steam train
KERRY - We went for a day trip to Tiradentes from Sao Joao del Rei on the old Steam train, which was pretty cool. The scenery itself is not that great, but the train is in great condition and gives you a really good idea of how it must have been to travel all those years ago. The trip costs 25 reals each for a return - about 6 pounds each, and although it is very touristy I would recommend it!
Tiradents itself is a lovely little town, but is also very touristy and every shop is geared up for you to part with your cash. It is a nice place to spend a day though and after wandering the cobbled streets for a couple of hours and visiting the churches, we had a nice lunch and then spent the afternoon sipping cold beers and watching the world go by. Very relaxing and very different from Sao Joao del Rei.
