KERRY - So after the trip to the mines we decided that we needd to move on to a more sophisticated way of life in Argentina. Bolivia had not impressed us all that much and we wanted to move on. We have since met people who loved Bolivia and thought it was the best country in South America, so we may not have seen the best of the country, but we did not find the people as friendly and the poverty there is really apparant.
We took our first night bus to the border town of Villazon. We survived the experence, just about - very very bumpy roads all the way there as well as a packed bus full of locals who had a very distinctive smell. We were accosted as we stepped off the bus by numerous bus agencies to take us accross to Argentina.
We were travelling with Lindsay Shashi and Claire who we had met on our Budget Expeditions trip. Claire and Lindsay were on route to Buenos Aires and Shahsi was also on his way there but was going to spend a few days in Salta with us.
Salta is a lovely town, we really enjoyed out time there. Finally we could experience some nice food! We went to a great restaurant on our first night where we had great steaks and were also greeted with a glass of champagne. and it was so cheap.
We also bumped into our friends Tim and Steve from our tour, just after Claire and Lindsay had left us and so spent 3 days with them in Salta. We went on a day trip to some of the local villages to see some of the stunning scenary and also went out on the Saturday night to experience some of the Argentinian nightlife. We also took the cable car up to see the view of the city surrounded by the mountains. The weather was really hot and sunny, so lots of delicious ice cream was also sampled!
